Hey Friends,
The holidays are coming, mama! Between shopping, decorating, meal planning, family gatherings, school activities, and trying to make everything magical for everyone else, it’s easy to forget about the one person holding it all together: YOU.
As moms, we sometimes feel like we have to do it all. We want our families to enjoy the holidays, our homes to feel cozy, and everything to run smoothly. But somewhere between the to-do lists and holiday preparations, we deserve a little joy, too.
This year, let’s make self-care part of our holiday preparation. Here are five simple habits to help you recharge, protect your peace, and enjoy the season without feeling completely overwhelmed.
1. Start Your Morning With a Few Minutes of Peace
You don’t have to wake up at 5 a.m. to have a meaningful morning routine.
Before checking emails, scrolling through social media, or jumping into everyone else’s needs, give yourself five to ten minutes to breathe.
Try:
- Enjoying a warm cup of coffee or tea in silence.
- Saying a morning prayer or practicing gratitude.
- Listening to your favorite music.
- Writing down three things you’re thankful for.
- Sitting quietly before the day begins.
Mom reminder: You deserve to start your day feeling refreshed, not already exhausted.
2. Schedule Time for Yourself Without Feeling Guilty
Self-care isn’t selfish. It’s necessary.
With holiday responsibilities piling up, intentionally schedule time for something that makes YOU happy. Treat it like an important appointment that cannot be canceled.
Your self-care time could include:
- Reading a few chapters of your favorite book.
- Taking a relaxing bubble bath.
- Watching your favorite show after bedtime.
- Doing your skincare routine.
- Enjoying a hobby that makes you feel like yourself again.
Even 15–20 minutes can make a difference. You don’t have to earn rest by finishing every single task on your list.
3. Simplify Your Holiday To-Do List
Let’s be honest: sometimes we create more holiday stress for ourselves by trying to make everything perfect.
This year, give yourself permission to simplify.
Instead of doing everything, ask yourself:
- Does this really need to be done?
- Can someone else help?
- Can I make this easier?
- Will this matter a week from now?
Try choosing your top three priorities for the day instead of creating a never-ending list.
Remember, the holidays don’t have to look perfect to be meaningful. Sometimes the best memories happen when things don’t go according to plan.
4. Create a Cozy Evening Self-Care Ritual
After a long day of being a mom, employee, partner, caregiver, and everything in between, you deserve a moment to unwind.
Create a simple evening ritual that signals it’s time to slow down.
My cozy evening ideas:
- Put on comfortable pajamas.
- Light a favorite candle or use a cozy room fragrance.
- Enjoy a cup of tea or your favorite relaxing drink.
- Read a book or listen to a podcast.
- Moisturize and give your skin a little extra love.
- Put your phone down for 20 minutes.
You don’t need an elaborate routine or expensive products. Just a few little things that make you feel good.
5. Make Gratitude and Grace Part of Your Holiday Season
The holidays can bring so many emotions. While we’re creating memories and celebrating, we may also feel overwhelmed, tired, or stretched thin.
Give yourself grace on the days when everything doesn’t go as planned.
Try keeping a gratitude journal and writing down one thing you appreciated each day. It could be something as simple as your morning coffee, a good laugh with your children, or finally sitting down after a busy day.
And remember: you don’t have to show up as the perfect mom every single day.
You are allowed to rest. You are allowed to say no. You are allowed to change plans. You are allowed to enjoy the holidays, too.
A Little Reminder for Moms
Before you pour into everyone else this holiday season, remember to pour a little love into yourself.
You deserve to experience the magic of the holidays, not just work behind the scenes to create it.
Let’s make this season about more than checking off our to-do lists. Let’s make room for rest, laughter, joy, and moments that remind us how beautiful life can be.
You are doing better than you think, mama. ❤️
