Hey friends,

There’s something about finally getting the kids in bed that feels like the end of a marathon.

The toys are (mostly) picked up. The dishes are done—or at least pushed to the side. The house is finally quiet, and for the first time all day, nobody is calling, “Mom!”

That’s when I know it’s time to exhale.

For me, one of my favorite ways to transition from mom mode to me mode is enjoying a glass of wine after bedtime.

Not because I need a drink to get through motherhood, but because sometimes I enjoy having a little ritual that reminds me to slow down, relax, and enjoy a few peaceful moments.

🍷 Why Wine After Bedtime Feels Like a Little Reward

Motherhood can feel like a never-ending list of things to do.

Between school drop-offs, homework, meals, laundry, work, errands, and everything else that comes with being a mom, it can be easy to put yourself last.

That’s why I love creating small moments of self-care.

A glass of wine can become part of a simple evening routine:

✨ Put the kids to bed
✨ Change into comfortable pajamas
✨ Turn on your favorite playlist
✨ Grab a cozy blanket
✨ Pour a glass of your favorite wine
✨ Sit down and actually relax

No rushing. No multitasking. Just a few minutes to yourself.

🛁 Create Your Own Mom Wind-Down Routine

You don’t need an expensive spa night to unwind.

Sometimes the best self-care is incredibly simple.

1. Put Your Phone Down

Give yourself permission to step away from notifications, emails, social media, and group chats.

Even 20–30 minutes without checking your phone can make your evening feel completely different.

2. Pick Your Favorite Glass

Yes, the glass matters!

Pull out that pretty wine glass you’ve been saving for a special occasion.

Tonight is the special occasion.

3. Choose Your Wine

Whether you prefer Cabernet Sauvignon, Moscato, Pinot Grigio, Rosé, or sparkling wine, choose something you genuinely enjoy.

And remember—your unwind time doesn’t have to include alcohol. A sparkling water, mocktail, tea, or alcohol-free wine can make the same ritual feel special.

4. Pair It With a Little Something

Create your own mini mom happy hour at home.

Try:

  • Dark chocolate
  • Strawberries
  • Cheese and crackers
  • Popcorn
  • Grapes
  • Your favorite dessert
  • A small charcuterie board

You don’t need a fancy dinner. A few favorite snacks can turn an ordinary Tuesday night into something special.

📖 Turn It Into “Me Time”

One of my favorite things about having a quiet evening is finally getting to do something I enjoy.

Read a few chapters of a book.

Watch an episode of your favorite show.

Write in your journal.

Work on your blog.

Plan your next girls’ night.

Listen to music.

Or simply sit on the couch and do absolutely nothing.

And honestly?

Doing nothing sometimes deserves a spot on the self-care list.

🕯️ Make Your Space Feel Relaxing

You don’t have to redecorate your entire house.

Dim the lights.

Light a candle.

Put on comfortable clothes.

Grab your favorite blanket.

Play soft music.

Even small changes can signal to your brain that the busy part of the day is over.

You’re allowed to create a peaceful environment for yourself.

🍷 A Few Rules for Mom’s Wine Time

Let’s keep this simple.

Rule #1: No guilt.

Taking time for yourself doesn’t make you a bad mom.

Rule #2: You don’t have to finish the glass.

Pour what you want and enjoy it slowly.

Rule #3: Know your limits.

If you’re responsible for nighttime caregiving, driving, or responding to an emergency, choose a nonalcoholic option or wait until you’re finished with those responsibilities.

Rule #4: Don’t make wine the only way you relax.

Self-care can be a glass of wine, but it can also be a hot shower, a good book, stretching, journaling, tea, or simply going to bed early.

The goal isn’t the wine.

The goal is the pause.

💕 Mom, You Deserve the Pause

We spend so much time taking care of everyone else that we sometimes forget we’re people who need care, too.

So tonight, when the kids are finally asleep and the house gets quiet, take a moment.

Pour your favorite beverage.

Get comfortable.

Take a deep breath.

And remind yourself:

You made it through another day.

The laundry can wait.

The dishes can wait.

The emails can wait.

For a few minutes, you don’t have to be the chauffeur, chef, homework helper, problem solver, scheduler, cleaner, or superhero.

You can simply be you.

And if that moment happens to include a beautiful glass of wine?

Cheers to that. 🍷❤️
