Today I will be discussing my latest read ‘The Coldest Winter Ever by Sistr Souljah.’

After reading this book I have a lot to say about the characters, if you have not read this or if you are in process of reading this book not read this post. If you have read it and feel the same as I do, please let me know in comment section below.

Winter the main character in the book was mess to me, she only thought about things that was not important. At the beginning of the book her father “Santiaga” was head one of the largest drug dealers in their city. He made millions and had a lot of people in his corner. Until one day everything caught up with him and everyone that was in his corner went down with him. The life that Winter was born into started to fade when her father got lock up, her mother ” started spiraling what their next moved and so on. When law started cracking down on all of the assets and where the money was coming from, they started seizing bank accounts, home, car, clothes, etc. The father “Santiaga” in opinion did not prepare his family for what would will happen if something like this would happen to them. The mother was a hot mess in the beginning for telling her daughter that she would put her on birth control at the age 13 years old so that way if she decides to have sex, she will be protected. I feel like a child around that age should be outside playing and being kids not thinking about sex.

Another thing that could not stand is that after Winter only thought about things she wanted to buy. All she thought about was the next outfit she needed to buy to look good and what club she needed to go next. Not thinking how she was going to help her mom, sister and herself back on their feet. She only thought about herself and no one else.

I was sad about what happened to her mother when she got shot going to get her brand-new car even though she was on the wrong place at the wrong time. There were so many things that went on in this book that made me mad, look at the book twice, or just made me put book down.

My favorite character in the book was Midnight. Midnight had his head on right throughout the book. He was “Santiaga” right hand man that made sure that Winter was not getting into something that she wasn’t supposed to do. Even though when he left town, he made sure to make sure that Winter in touch with Sister Souljah, whom he thought will help her until she got back on her feet.

Instead, Winter thought everyone was beneath her and didn’t need any help. Winter thought Sister Souljah was a fraud until she saw how she was living and wanted a piece of the action until things wasn’t going her way.

Overall, the book made me mad for majority of the reading, and still have unanswered questions about where was midnight throughout the book? Why did the book end the way it did? Why didn’t bullet get caught and go to jail for his involvement of the drugs? Why didn’t Santiaga prepare his family for what would happen if he got caught?
