Hey friends,

Day 1: Back-to-School Reset — Getting Kids Back Into a Routine

Summer is fun, but getting back into a school routine can be a challenge for both kids and parents. Late nights, sleeping in, and relaxed schedules are about to become early mornings, homework, and busy afternoons.

The good news? You don’t have to change everything overnight.

Start Adjusting Bedtime

A few days before school starts, begin moving bedtime and wake-up time earlier. Even 15–30 minutes at a time can make the transition easier.

Try creating a relaxing bedtime routine:

  • Take a bath or shower
  • Put pajamas on
  • Brush teeth
  • Read for 15–20 minutes
  • Turn off electronics
  • Get into bed at the same time each night

Create a Morning Routine

Kids do better when they know what to expect. Create a simple morning checklist that includes:

☐ Wake up
☐ Brush teeth
☐ Get dressed
☐ Eat breakfast
☐ Pack backpack
☐ Put on shoes
☐ Grab lunch
☐ Head out the door

You can even let your child decorate their checklist.

Practice Before the First Day

Do a practice morning before school starts. Set the alarm, get dressed, eat breakfast, and pretend you’re leaving for school.

It may sound silly, but practicing can help reduce first-day stress.

Mom Tip

Don’t try to make the first week perfect. Some mornings will be chaotic. Someone will forget a shoe, spill their cereal, or suddenly remember an assignment five minutes before leaving.

Take a breath. You’re figuring it out together.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s getting everyone back into a rhythm.
