🌸 Finding Myself Again: My Life, Hobbies, and Joy as a Mom

Becoming a mom changed everything—my schedule, my priorities, and honestly… a big part of my identity.

Somewhere between diaper changes, school drop-offs, laundry piles, and trying to remember the last time I drank my coffee while it was still hot, I realized something:
I had slowly stopped doing things just for me.

And I know I’m not alone.

Many moms feel like their hobbies disappear into the background of daily responsibilities. In fact, it’s common for moms to struggle finding time for themselves, even though hobbies are important for mental health and self-care.

💭 The Moment It Hit Me

One day, someone asked me a simple question:

“What do you like to do for fun?”

And I froze.

I used to have so many answers reading, trying new recipes, crafting, even just sitting quietly with my thoughts. But in that moment, I couldn’t think of a single thing.

That’s when I knew something had to change.

✨ Why Hobbies Matter (Yes, Even for Busy Moms)

As moms, we often put ourselves last. But here’s the truth:

  • Hobbies reduce stress
  • They help us feel like ourselves again
  • They can even make us better, more present parents

🧶 The Hobbies I’m Learning to Love Again

I didn’t suddenly gain hours of free time (I wish 😅), but I started small.

Here are a few hobbies I’ve been bringing back into my life:

🎨 Creative Time

Whether it’s journaling, doodling, or DIY crafts with the kids, creativity helps me relax and express myself.

🍰 Baking & Cooking

Not the rushed “what’s for dinner” kind—but fun recipes, desserts, and trying something new just because.

📖 Quiet Moments

Reading a few pages before bed or during nap time feels like a mini escape.

🌿 Simple Self-Care

Even things like taking a walk, gardening, or listening to music count as hobbies—and they matter.

⏰ How I Actually Make Time (Because It’s Hard!)

Let’s be real—finding time is the hardest part.

Here’s what’s helping me:

  • Letting go of perfection (the house doesn’t have to be spotless)
  • Using small pockets of time (15–30 minutes counts!)
  • Asking for help when I need it
  • Including my kids when possible

I’ve learned that hobbies don’t have to be big or time-consuming. They just have to be mine.
