I have two:
My first one as a parent:
When I became a mom for the first time with my daughter, it was surreal. I was looking at a little human that I gave birth to, sitting in my arms with these big, beautiful, brown eyes, and a sweet little face for the first time, thinking OMG!! I have a little one of my own, and I’m a MOM!!! This is a whole new chapter in my life that I am taking a role in now, filled with responsibilities and joys I had never anticipated, creating a journey that would unfold in ways I could never have imagined. Every moment feels precious; watching her tiny fingers curl around mine, witnessing her first smile, and hearing the soft coos that signal her presence in the world brings immense joy. Each milestone, from her first steps to her first words, felt monumental, as if we were building a bridge together connecting us in ways that transcended the ordinary. This little girl is going to be watching me, teaching me things like patience, self-control, love, and the importance of cherishing the tiniest of moments, far more than I could have ever imagined. I often find myself reflecting on the wisdom I gain daily from our interactions, how her innocent perspective challenges me to appreciate the little things in life that we usually overlook. I know that as she grows, our bond will deepen, and I will learn from her just as much as she learns from me, creating a beautiful cycle of growth, love, and understanding between us. This year, my daughter just turned 12, and over the last 12 years, I have learned so much not only about her but also about myself as her mom. I’ve discovered reserves of strength and tenderness I didn’t know existed within me, and through every challenge and triumph, I’ve come to understand that motherhood is not just about raising a child, but it’s also about cultivating a relationship that will evolve and flourish over time.
My second one is my first job:
I got my first job at 22 years old and, at that point, I had never had any experience in a work field before or any background in working. As a single mom of one and a full-time student, I found myself in a challenging position; I was a stay-at-home mom just trying to make things happen for my daughter and me amidst the chaos of daily life, juggling classes, homework, and the responsibilities of parenthood. I vividly remember the day of my interview—I walked in feeling nervous and apprehensive, my heart racing as I pondered whether they would actually hire me or not. The uncertainty weighed heavily on me, as I desperately wanted to secure a job that could provide stability for both of us, especially considering the impact that financial security would have on my daughter’s future. I felt a deep sense of responsibility to create a nurturing environment for her, which fueled my determination to succeed. I knew that this opportunity could be my stepping stone towards a better future, not just for me, but for my child as well. Despite my fears, I put on a brave face, hoping that my determination and eagerness to learn would shine through, allowing me to prove that I could be a valuable addition to their team. After the interview, I was hired as a hostess at one of their restaurants, which quickly turned into being a server, showcasing my adaptability and willingness to take on new challenges. This trajectory eventually led me to become a night receptionist and, now, a daytime receptionist. I have worked in different areas of my job, from banquets and the Halfway House to Expo, Golf Cart, Greenhouse, Babysitting, Kid’s Club, and so much more; each experience has enriched my skill set and deepened my appreciation for the work I do. I have been at my same job for 10 years next March, and during this decade, I have learned a lot about myself, developed resilience, and found a passion for my job that I never anticipated. This journey has not only provided for my family but also helped me grow personally and professionally, shaping me into the person I am today.
What about you guys?
