Hey Friends,
Today, I’d like to share a book I recently completed, which was also included in my book club’s reading list that we wrapped up last month. The title is ‘The Coworker’ by Fredia McFadden. This thrilling read offers an engaging mix of mystery, drama, romance, and much more. If you have this book on your to-read list, feel free to skip this post. For those who have already read it, please leave a comment below—I’d love to discuss your thoughts on the book!
Overview of the Book
Two women. An office filled with secrets. One terrible crime that can’t be taken back.
Dawn Schiff is strange.
At least, everyone thinks so at Vixed, the nutritional supplement company where Dawn works as an accountant. She never says the right thing. She has no friends. And she is always at her desk at precisely 8:45 a.m.
So when Dawn doesn’t show up to the office one morning, her coworker Natalie Farrell―beautiful, popular, top sales rep five years running―is surprised. Then she receives an unsettling, anonymous phone call that changes everything…
It turns out Dawn wasn’t just an awkward outsider―she was being targeted by someone close. And now Natalie is irrevocably tied to Dawn as she finds herself caught in a twisted game of cat and mouse that leaves her wondering: who’s the real victim?
But one thing is incredibly clear: somebody hated Dawn Schiff.
Enough to kill.
The Coworker is a tense, unputdownable thriller from New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden that explores the dark ways the past can echo through the present―with deadly consequences.
My Review
Let’s start at the very beginning of the book where the story unfolds. Dawn was quite peculiar; her organizational skills were so exceptional that she was never late for work and had a fondness for turtles. She was employed as an accountant at Vixed, a company that sold nutritional supplements and various other products. Lacking friends, Dawn often made odd or inappropriate comments. One day, Vixed welcomed a new employee named Natalie, who was not only very popular but also the top seller in the company. Natalie had many friends, loved going out, and was unapologetically assertive about her desires. However, everything changed for her when she received an anonymous phone call that altered the course of her life.
One morning, Natalie arrived at work to find that Dawn was missing from her desk. Dawn was typically at her desk promptly at 8:45 a.m. and never missed a day. It became even more unsettling when Natalie answered Dawn’s phone and found silence on the other end. Concerned, she began asking her colleagues if they had seen or spoken to Dawn or if she had called in absent, as it was highly unusual for her to be away from work.
Dawn was born to a mother who wished for her to be an adventurous and sociable daughter. However, Dawn preferred solitude; she had one close friend who lived out of town, and soon you’ll discover more about this friendship. This friend was married with two children, and Dawn frequently emailed her, sharing updates about her experiences and the people she encountered at work. Despite her shyness and reluctance to engage with others, she confided in her best friend about everything.
In contrast, Natalie was outgoing and well-liked; she effortlessly made friends with colleagues both at work and beyond. Natalie move away from home to follow her dreams, she had a relationship with one the guys that she work with.
Overall the book took a turn that I was not expecting Dawn kidnapping herself and is hiding in a hotel, Dawn best friend that email faithfully actually pass away years a go, Natalie was having an affair with the boos whose wife find out and now filing for divorce, and Natalie boyfriend was actually Dawn’s boyfriend and her best friend brother.
You can not tell me that this was not a twist.
