Hey Friends,

Today and for the next three days, I’ll talk about three books I read for August. Let’s begin!

The first book I read and the book that I will be discussing at Book Club this weekend is called The Daughter-in-Law by Jordan Silver. It’s a captivating story that delves into complex family dynamics, love, and betrayal. The author’s descriptive storytelling and compelling character development make this book a must-read for anyone who enjoys gripping fiction. If you have this book in your “Want to Read” please skip it because I will have spoilers in this blog and probably ruin it for you. If you have read this book please continue to read it and let me know in the comments below, how did you feel about this book when you were reading it. Your thoughts and insights about the plot twists and character decisions will surely add an enriching layer to our Book Club discussion!

Here are my thoughts:

  • Mother-in-law and sister “Barbara” were both sick in the head
  • They didn’t like the fact he was married to Vanessa
  • I was mad at the fact that Dami didn’t catch on to his mother and sister’s act and what they were plotting
  • I loved the fact that Vanessa’s mom knew the signs of what Dami’s mother was doing due to the fact she went through it herself with her mother-in-law “Vanessa’s grandmother”
  • There were a lot of red flags about Dami’s mother
    • She was made at the fact Dami and Vanessa got engaged after 6 months of dating
      • which is understandable because they only knew each other for a short amount of time (but he was getting deployed out of the country)
    • She made Vanessa’s life a living hell because Dami asked his mother to look after her in a “good way” while he was gone but didn’t
    • Barbara wanted to be with her brother in a romantic way “Eww”
    • Mother-in-law kept harassing Vanessa coming to her house unannounced, calling multiple times a day, leaving nasty voicemails
    • Hire a hitman to run her off the road
    • Stole her grandmother’s ring and panties
    • Had pictures in her phone of another woman posing as Vanessa in her lingerie in her purse
    • Fake a suicide so that Vanessa and Dami couldn’t go to Vanessa’s parents for Christmas
    • Gave her a Dollar Tree robe that was dirty and disguising.
    • When she found out that Vanessa was pregnant, she threatened to take the child away
    • Came up to the hospital when Vanessa went into labor and tried to sign the baby’s name on the birth certificate trying to name the child after her (sick)
    • Vanessa didn’t want her in her wedding and when she finally agreed to it, she tried to sabotage it by calling the bakery to change the cake from what she ordered to a Red Velvet cake (Vanessa is allergic to red dye)
    • Talking to her son’s ex-girlfriend and telling her that she wishes that he had married her instead of Vanessa
  • I had all respect for the Dami father until he didn’t stand up for his son and let his wife know that what she was doing was sick and out of control
  • Barbara was all talk and no fight. (Happy that Vanessa beat her behind because she needed it) I don’t condone violence!!!!
  • The sex scenes were very X-rated
  • Loved the fact that the Mother-in-law did not own her estate, but Dami did, and he kicked his own mother and father out of the house and gave it to Vanessa (Chef Kiss)
  • Was very proud that Dami stood up for his wife even though he didn’t know that his mother and sister (one of the sisters) were a psychopath
  • Proud that Dami got a restraining order against his mother and sister (especially the mother until she broke it and got her removed from the state. She also broke, while trespassing, stalking, and having a deadly weapon in tow.
  • This book was off the charts

Happy Reading!!!
